After Korea regained its independance in 1945, martial arts began to flourish. Tang Soo Do became one of the most popular names used to describe the practice. However, the Korean government objected to the name, because of the word Tang (Tang was a Chinese Dynasty). As a result, Taekwondo was adopted as a national martial art, and quickly went on to become a sport. In contrast, Tang Soo Do retained its identity as a traditional Korean martial art. Chuck Norris started his martial arts studies with Tang Soo Do, and currently holds a ninth degree black belt.

San Kil Tang Soo Do
San Kil Tang Soo Do (SKTSD) is a traditional style of Tang Soo Do, and is a member of the International Goodwill Tang Soo Do Association (www.igtsda.com). SKTSD is also a member of the AAU. In addition to Tang Soo Do, Sa Bom David L. Sgro also teaches Ju-Jitsu (A Combatives instructor to the US Special Forces, www.combatives.net) and Arnis (Stick/Knife Fighting). He was a member of TEAM USA in 1986, England, 1989 Korea, 1991 Argentina, 1999 England, 2001 Greece, and 2002 Holland.
